His goal was to ensure that all soldiers flying home from war would look down and see an American Flag greeting them home…Scott’s mission was to make sure that the soldiers knew how grateful we all are for their service to this great country, and to acknowledge the families of these great men and women, and of course express his pride in being a free American.

WHY:
Broken Sound Club members have tremendous empathy for all members of the armed forces who have been wounded while in action. By hosting this tournament, Broken Sound Club is helping a diverse group of warriors who have been protecting our country. A Broken Sound Club members' son-in-law along with several fellow wounded soldiers will benefit from funds raised by the tournament, as all funds donated will be shared by all of the eligible beneficiaries.

How The Tournament Began
After learning from his son-in-law Ben Harrow, a West Point graduate, Army Captain, Green Beret (with three Bronze Stars) that a friend of his had lost both his legs, and almost his life, in Afghanistan in 2011, Broken Sound Club Resident and Club Member Sal Caragliano and his wife Wendy founded the annual Broken Sound Club golf tournament to benefit the national Wounded Warrior Project. They did so with the help of fellow club member and friend Retired Col. Ed West, himself a West Point graduate and decorated hero of the Korean War.

Just three months after the second tournament at Broken Sound Club, Sal and Wendy’s son-in-law himself, a decorated soldier stepped on a live IED while on duty and was severely injured, and thus Broken Sound Club expanded this year’s tournament to also benefit the Tunnel to Towers Foundation that builds "Smart Houses" for military returning home with devastating injuries, such as Ben Harrow, Sal’s son-in-law.
