Allianz Championship Announces Economic Impact and Green Achievements Along With 2013 Dates

ALLIANZ CHAMPIONSHIP, A PGA CHAMPIONS TOUR EVENT ANNOUNCES $15 MILLION ECONOMIC IMPACT AND “GREEN” BENEFITS DRIVEN BY 2012 TOURNAMENT ALONG WITH DATES FOR 2013, ITS SEVENTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR IN BOCA RATON

BOCA RATON, FL - - Allianz Championship, the annual PGA Champions Tour event that will soon tee off for its seventh consecutive year in Boca Raton, announced today the economic impact results and “green” initiative achievements by its 2012 event and dates for its 2013 tournament. As the first full-field tournament on the PGA Champions Tour, tens of thousands come out to enjoy the celebrated week of “up close and personal” interactive pre-tournament events and championship rounds that benefit Boca Raton Regional Hospital.

At today’s Boca Raton City Council meeting, Allianz Championship Tournament Director Ryan Dillon reported the 2012 tournament delivered:
  • $15 million in economic impact
  • 1,800 hotel rooms
  • $1.3 million in media exposure for Boca Raton on Golf Channel
    • 150 million households
    • 174 countries
    • 4.9 million national viewers
  • 2.5 million circulation: USA Today’s Sports Page Ad
  • 1.1 million page clicks on PGA Tour’s website during tournament week
  • Highest visitor stats on the Champions Tour on social media sites and communications, including Facebook, Twitter
  • 750 community volunteers: up 100 from 650 the previous year
  • Much global tourism impact- Allianz Life brought four visitors from Australia and 16 from France
to play in the Pro-Ams and stay for a week
  • 65,000 spectators
  • $300,000 to Boca Raton Champions Golf Charities
  • $250,000 worth of inventory (skybox tickets, logo-ed merchandise) was donated to 50-60 local organizations in Boca for silent auction use
  • New PGA Champions Tour history-making messaging: “It All Starts In Boca” referencing that the previous two Allianz Championship champions went on to win the yearlong pursuit for the Charles Schwab Cup. This year’s winner will be announced in November 2012 and presented the award at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, to be held at the Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Regarding the ambitious on-course Green initiative Allianz Championship launched as part of its 2012 operations planning, Dillon reported that the Allianz Championship is now officially “one the greenest golf tournaments” on the PGA Champions Tour. Retaining the Smart Group, an organization of ecologists, scientists, educators, and academic researchers who help clients make sound decisions about environmental management, and working in collaboration with partners Broken Sound Club, Southern Waste Systems and the International Green Energy Council, the tournament developed a comprehensive carbon footprint analysis to set green benchmarks. The plan included the education of spectators, players and vendors about the benefits of going green in their daily business and personal spaces.

Dillon shared a few preliminary achievements, noting that more comprehensive results will soon be announced.  He reported that:
  • 92% of all tournament waste was recycled
  • 30% reduction made in tournament carbon footprint
  • 25% reduction made in tournament diesel generators and fuel
  • Tournament staff used recycled products throughout the year, from business cards, tournament programs, plates, cups and utensils to plastic, PVC tournament signage and more.
  • Very little to no "virgin" products used - plates were plant-based, cups were 50% compostable /recyclable
“It is great to be an active part of and an steadfast advocate for the Boca Raton community, not just during tournament week, but all year ‘round,” added Dillon. “Proud to be part of the recent Downtown Boca hosted Travel Rally Road Trip Day with the Palm Beach County Convention & Visitors Bureau, a panelist for the Greater Boca Raton Chamber’s Young Entrepreneurs Academy and for bringing more ‘green’ to this beautiful City of Boca Raton.”

To engage, benefit and promote the Greater Boca Raton community, area businesses and lifestyle, the Allianz Championship is directed by the nonprofit Boca Raton Champions Golf Charities (BRCGC) board that serves as the operational and financial oversight group for the annual Boca Raton event as well as the oversight group for the distribution of all charitable funds. The Allianz Championship tournament is managed by Pro Links Sports, headquartered in Minneapolis, MN. Directing five tournaments on the Champions Tour schedule, all are continuously voted in the top ten tournaments by the players. This reputation attracts the top golfers on the PGA Championship Tour to Boca Raton, along with other legends of golf, all while driving charity and community engagement.

According to Dillon, the 2013 Allianz Championship will hit the links to benefit Boca Raton Regional Hospital at The Old Course at Broken Sound for the seventh consecutive year from February 4-10, 2013.

Forgoing Billable Hours Firm “PLAYED It Forward”
To Support Children With Special Needs at Annual SunFest Kids Day

More than 15 attorneys and staff from Lesser, Lesser, Landy & Smith, PLLC (LLL&S) left their suits and legal briefs behind and opted to don their LLL&S t-shirts and shorts and head to SunFest to literally “play it forward” and volunteer their time to help make great SunFest memories for a special group of youngsters. As a community partner, LLL&S sponsored and volunteered at SunFest Kids Day 2012, an annual SunFest tradition of opening early on the Friday of the festival to welcome more than 300 children with special needs and 150 caregivers for a morning of fun activities, gifts, music, food and loving attention to each child as they enjoy SunFest in their very own way. The SunFest Kids Day program has continued to grow each year and has embraced thousands of special needs children since its inception.

While this year is the first year LLL&S sponsored Kids Day, it will not be the last; during the event amidst all the activities, Firm Managing Partner Gary Lesser committed to continuing the firm’s sponsorship and volunteerism for the 2013 SunFest and beyond.

“Underwriting and participating in SunFest Kids Day has been such a meaningful experience for our entire firm, so much so that we will be sponsoring, planning and volunteering for this event every year going forward,” said Lesser whose firm is celebrating its 85th anniversary in West Palm Beach. “It’s been wonderful for the kids and wonderful for us...a warm and inspiring time for all.”

Lesser noted that “it was only natural for the firm to ‘step up and step into’ SunFest Kids Day as a proud and engaged sponsor”, which now will be a yearly tradition as part of the Firm’s community outreach. LLL&S – the third oldest law firm in Palm Beach County – has a long history of supporting children-related missions, including organizations and programming that enable children with special needs to have impactful resources and meaningful experiences that enhance their lives. Through the   years, LLL&S has been a major sponsor and served as an impassioned volunteer crew for Autism Speaks and its Walk Now for Autism Speaks annual fundraising walk, Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center's Annual Spring Fit & Fun Sports Program, Stand Among Friends and other organizations.

In the past 20 months, the boutique-size firm has contributed more than $400,000 in donations and sponsorships to support vital charity and business missions of South Florida, including health, medical research, education, special needs, humanitarian/human rights, veterans, arts and culture, economic development, legal aid organizations and other causes, and provided more than 2,500+ hours of pro bono legal services and community service. This year, LLL&S has given a major gift to the athletics program of Florida Atlantic University that has been commemorated with a concession stand named for the firm in the new FAU Stadium and has also dedicated a bench at the entrance to the new Palm Beach County Bar Association building.

Downtown Boca “Rolled Out Welcome Mat” To Visitors Near And Far During 2012 National Travel & Tourism Week

BOCA RATON, FL (May 10, 2012)--As the host of the first stop in the Annual Travel Rally Road Trip Day throughout Palm Beach County that was navigated this week by Palm Beach County Convention & Visitors Bureau and United States Travel Association, Downtown Boca joined more than 100 destinations nationwide in celebration of the 2012 Travel & Tourism Week. The festivities were held  in Plaza Real At Mizner Park, the public  "park within the park" that has been designated one of the "Top Ten Great Public Spaces" in America by the American Planning Association. Literally “rolling out” a 10-foot by 8-foot welcome mat for visitors near and far, Downtown Boca businesses, city and county officials, and community, business and tourism leaders gathered to celebrate, showcase South County's tourism assets, and rally for visitors. Spectators were “seeing red”, as participants wore red or their company shirts or uniforms to symbolize their hospitality spirit and tourism pride.

A fun, interactive and very "visual" showcase of major destination tourism drivers awaited guests, spotlighting the area’s world-class museums, dining, shopping, hotels and resorts, cultural and culinary festivals, sporting events, nightlife, concerts, and entertainment. There was informal modeling of "upcycled" couture fashion by designer Maria Dopozo that was created in the Boca Raton Museum of Art’s Fashion Illustration Class With Instructor Amy Berkowitz, a 17-foot x 17-foot inflatable driving range presented Allianz Championship, Florida Atlantic University mascot Owsley with football players, Boca Ballet Theatre black swan ballerina from the classic Swan Lake, costumed actors from FAU Festival Repertory Theatre, exhibit by Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, Boca Raton “pioneer” from the Boca Raton Children’s Museum, information on Lynn University's hosting of the final presidential debate of the election year, Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Boca Raton instructors leading the official "Downtown Boca Bop" line dance and more. Visitors joined in the first official Travel Rally welcome photo as a large crowd of South County "cheerleaders" showed destination hospitality.

During her remarks, City of Boca Raton Mayor Susan Whelchel reported that 25% of the county’s hotel inventory is in Boca Raton with 3,891 hotel rooms with Boca Raton as home to the largest hotel between Miami and Orlando — the Boca Raton Resort & Club — which continues to lead as the number one bed tax contributor in the county. She then applauded the City’s key tourism drivers that include a revitalized Downtown Boca with a newly constructed and landscaped pedestrian promenade that connects the downtown community for easy and enjoyable strolling; Lynn University as the site for the presidential “Debate in Paradise”, Florida Atlantic University where President Obama recently made a nationally televised visit and the home to a new state-of-the-art stadium, and the annual Allianz Championship PGA Tournament that draws more than $15 million in economic impact and generates more than $1.2 million in news coverage of Boca Raton with televised household reach throughout the world. She noted that the annual Festival of the Arts BOCA has intensified the international cultural spotlight on Boca Raton and Downtown Boca bringing star after star, year after year from music, literature, film, art and dance worlds to the Mizner Park Amphitheater.

“If it sounds like I am bragging…I am and do so proudly,” proclaimed Whelchel.  “Our business owners, and cultural, shopping, dining, and lifestyle entities and partners, including the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce and the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County work hard everyday to make it a great day in Boca Raton for visitors, and on behalf of the city, I thank every one of them for their spirit, dedication and hospitality. We have a great partner in the Palm Beach County Convention & Visitors Bureau that promotes and markets our incredible tourism assets to potential visitors from around the country and globe.”
Boca Raton City Council Member and Community Redevelopment Chair Constance Scott focused her bragging specifically on the Downtown Boca destination, exulting its world-class shopping, dining, culture, entertainment, nightlife, family activities and special events and programming, such as the Friday Night LIVE! entertainment series, Saturdays@Sanborn fitness program, Meet Me On The Promenade community street festival set for October 26th and 27th, and more. As a cultural hub, Downtown Boca is home to several museums, including the world-renowned Boca Raton Museum of Art, Boca History Museum, and Boca Raton Children’s Museum with its new Music Hall, and its Mizner Park Amphitheater draws live concerts, performing arts performances, and film and culinary festivals.

“We encourage visitors to ‘come early, stay late’ to explore and experience all there is to see and do in walkable, pet-friendly Downtown Boca where ‘it’s happening!’ for all generations, from young professionals, families, and couples to seniors,” Scott said.  “We have a world-class, eclectic collection of activity, from Mizner Park to Royal Palm Place, and along Palmetto Park Road and Plaza Real South to draw visitors from near and far, making Downtown Boca a true ‘visitors paradise’.”

Jorge Pesquera, president and CEO of the Palm Beach County Convention and Visitors Bureau reported that “Travel and tourism is America’s largest service industry export, and more than 44,000 jobs are supported by travel right here in Palm Beach County. At this rally and throughout the week, we celebrate the significance every individual in our community contributes to the destination’s tourism identity and thanking each for their hard work and contribution to our economy. By rallying together, we emphasize the importance of travel in this county, state and country, and reinforcing our significance to policymakers during this election season.”

Throughout the day, the CVB highlighted the importance of tourism in Palm Beach County with the announcement of several new, key figures for 2011 revealed through their recent, comprehensive Tourism Economic Impact Study, including:
·         Nearly 5 million visitors generated a $5 billion impact on the local economy last year
·         $836 million in total taxes are generated through tourism
·         44,600 jobs in Palm Beach County are supported by tourism - jobs that can never be outsourced
