BOCA RATON, FL (December 8, 2009)—The Haven, a group home for adolescent boys who have been placed in protective care by the state of Florida, has appointed Judge Reginald R. Corlew, James R (J.R.) Davis, Jr. and Scott Jordan, Esq. to its 2009-2010 Advisory Board. The advisory board is composed of a diverse cross-section of South Florida business, educational, and community leaders to assist its board of directors and management to fulfill its mission and vision. The announcement was made by Don Stewart, Executive Director of The Haven.
They join current advisory board members William Berger, Esq., former circuit judge in Palm Beach County and adjunct professor at Nova Southeastern Law School and Florida Atlantic University; Mark Butters, Principal, Butters Construction & Development; Ann Faraone, Ed.D, Director, Department of Student Intervention Services, School District of Palm Beach County; Frank Frione, CEO, GFA International; Lynda Levitsky, Co-Chair, The Haven Day at The Races; Emmanuel Newsome, Ph.D. – Retired; Former Vice President of Student Affairs, Florida Atlantic University; Derek Vander Ploeg, Principal, Vander Ploeg and Associates, and Dianne Wright, Ph.D., Associate Professor Educational Leadership Florida Atlantic University.
The Honorable Reginald R. Corlew was appointed to the County Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit of Palm Beach County, Florida in March 2006. Prior to his judicial appointment Judge Corlew was employed for 12 years with the United States Department of Treasury, Office of Chief Counsel - IRS, where he handled a diversity of tax related cases in the United States Tax Court. Judge Corlew attended the University of Florida in 1983 on a football scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988. He has the distinction of playing with some of the most notable Florida Gators in history, including Emmitt Smith. He also helped his team win the first South Eastern Conference Championship in 1984. After graduation he attended Southern University Law Center and graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 1992. He then went to Dallas, TX and attended Southern Methodist University where he graduated with a Masters of Law in Tax in 1993. He is licensed to practice in Florida and before the United States Tax Court.
James R. (J.R.) Davis, Jr. is the Managing Director of Brockway Moran & Partners, Inc. in Boca Raton where he contributes to the evaluation, negotiation and financing of investments in growth-oriented companies for the $1.3 billion private equity firm and executes and manages new platform and add-on acquisition opportunities across a wide range of sectors. He conducts negotiations of purchase and credit agreements, business due diligence, industry research, financial modeling and valuation analyses, assessment of corporate strategies, evaluation of management teams and analysis of competitive positioning and growth prospects. Davis has a Master’s degree in business from Harvard, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Princeton, where he was also a member of the football team. He is married to Susan and they have three sons.
Scott Jordan, Esq. joined Tripp Scott as an attorney in 1995 following 10 years experience as a corporate executive, being named as a Tripp Scott director in January 2001. As an attorney, he has counseled business clients in numerous financial transactions and developments, structured and assisted emerging companies with their business and financing needs. He holds a law degree with honors from St. Thomas University School of Law, a Masters degree in business administration and a Bachelor’s degree in marketing from Florida Atlantic University. He also attended the University of Louisiana-Monroe on a football scholarship.
According to Don Stewart, executive director of The Haven, the role of the Advisory Board is to play an important public relations role as an ambassador to the community, as well as, providing the Board and staff a fresh perspective on programmatic issues. The Advisory Board will also increase The Haven’s potential to broaden its funding through contacts for in-kind resources, and for direct financial support.
